Quinault Rainforest, Olympic National Park, Washington. Much of the coastal region of Olympic National Park is a true temperate rainforest, receiving up to 12 feet of rain a year. In these perpetually wet conditions, mosses and clubmosses are able to colonize virtually every available space, including tree trunks. On the ground are sword ferns, Polystichum munitum.
